Blaster

Description

The cartoon character Wile E. Coyote spent his days blasting through desert rocks and roads trying to catch the Roadrunner. Well, believe it or not people employed as blasters also spend their days detonating explosives. Blasters fill blast holes with explosives and detonate explosives to dislodge material such as coal, ore and rock and to demolish structures.

Blasters must enjoy working outdoors and be able to work under extreme pressure. Working with explosives can be extremely dangerous not only for the blasters but for anyone around the blast site if something were to go wrong. They have to be aware of the proper way to store, handle and transport explosives. This job takes a steady hand while connecting electrical wires, detonating cords and fuses. Not to mention a level head and calm nerves when it comes time to press the button to detonate charges.

Blasters may also work in other trades besides construction, such as doing pyrotechnics or blasting for film and televsion programs, or stage shows.
