Homeopath

Description

Homeopathy is an ancient tradition which is now being practiced around the world in an alternative way to treat illness. Homeopaths use special diets, herbal remedies, acupressure, massage, and the theory of "similars" to treat their patients' mental and physical health. It is the use of "similars" which make this health care unique. The theory is basically "fight fire with fire" put into practice: in order to fight an illness, you must treat yourself with a product which will create symptoms similar to the ones the illness is busy creating. The idea is that your immune system will then kick into overdrive, and eliminate the ailment.

Homeopaths meet with patients, learn their histories, and prescribe remedies based on the information. The remedies are made with plant, animal, and mineral sources, and are considered safe because they use small, non-toxic doses.

Homeopaths can be licensed to practice, as doctors, dentists, chiropractors, naturopaths, and even vets. However, there are a fair number of homeopaths who have no other medical training, but studied homeopathy exclusively, on their own or in a course. These people are not necessarily licensed.

It is a medical tradition which is gaining momentum. In many other European countries, as well as Mexico, homeopaths are quite common, and Americans are beginning to use homeopathy, either on its own, or alongside other treatments.
