Program Overview
|
Southern New Hampshire University believes there are no limits to what students can achieve. SNHU's distance learning program, SNHU Online, began in 1996 and now annually exceeds 15,000 enrollments from students all over the world. Students choose from more than 1,300 course sections annually and can earn associate, bachelor's and master's degrees, as well as certificates, online.
Students interact in a collaborative workspace with faculty and peers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Active and regular course participation is required and assignments are due each week, though students have flexibility each week to meet course requirements. Classes are capped at 18 students to allow maximum interaction with peers and instructors.
Students have access online to academic advising, technical support, tutoring, orientation, the bookstore and library resources. Additionally, prospective students can apply to Southern New Hampshire University and register online for SNHU Online courses. In addition to a completed application, applicants must submit official high school transcripts and college transcripts if credit is to be evaluated and transferred.
Students may qualify for need-based government assistance or Stafford Student Loans. SNHU Online accepts the GI Bill, military tuition assistance, federal work-study, Perkins Loans, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, Pell Grants and all forms of corporate reimbursement.
Undergraduate Programs
SNHU Online offers more than 30 undergraduate business and liberal arts degree and certificate programs, including accounting, business administration, communication, computer information technology, marketing and psychology. An academic year consists of six undergraduate terms of eight weeks each. All courses are three credits each. Students can transfer up to 90 undergraduate hours into a bachelor's degree program. At least 30 semester hours must be completed through SNHU for graduation. Credit-earning options include the College-Level Examination Program, and DANTES.
Graduate Programs
SNHU Online offers a Global M.B.A. and M.S. degrees in business education, justice studies, marketing, organizational leadership and sport management, as well as online graduate certificates in accounting, finance, human resource management, integrated marketing communications, international business, marketing, microfinance management, operations management, sport management, and training and development. An academic year for graduate students consists of four terms of 11 weeks each. All graduate courses are three credits each.

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) is a private, nonprofit, accredited institution located in Manchester, New Hampshire. Founded in 1932, SNHU is recognized for its solid academic programs and dedication to teaching. The university awards associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, as well as graduate and undergraduate certificates. SNHU operates continuing education centers throughout the state, including Manchester, Nashua, Portsmouth and Salem, as well as Brunswick, Maine.

Program Delivery and Student Support

Online courses are delivered through Blackboard Learning System, one of the most prevalent online teaching and learning environments. Instructors and students interact with one another, share resources and exchange documents through discussion boards and other electronic tools. Students must meet individual instructor requirements for interaction and submit papers, projects, quizzes and examinations by published deadlines. Requirements are outlined in each class syllabus.
The technical staff recommends that for optimal computer use for classes, students should have access to a desktop computer with an Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor, or a laptop with an Intel Pentium M Processor and have Microsoft Office XP Professional as an operating system.
Other recommended specifications include 512 MB RAM, 40 GB of free hard drive space or alternate storage such as a zip drive, and Internet access. Also, the technical staff recommends that for optimal computer use for classes, students who use a Mac should have a 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4 processor and use Mac OS X "Tiger", or the latest version for their operating system. Other recommended specifications for Mac users include 512 MB RAM, 60 GB of free hard drive space, and Internet access. The technical support staff also recommends that computers have an Internet connection of at least 56K.
