Program Overview
Online and Distance Learning (ODL) offers outstanding University of Minnesota credit courses online and by distance learning. Typically the department receives about 5,100 registrations from 3,800 students per year from throughout the United States and abroad.

Courses
Choose from approximately 150 online and distance courses in such varied subjects as applied business, child psychology, ecology, English literature and writing courses, foreign languages, management, math and physics. All courses are fully accredited by approximately 40 different academic departments at the University. All instructors hold advanced degrees. ODL is part of the College of Continuing Education (CCE), the division of the University of Minnesota that serves adult and part-time learners.

Application Process
For individual ODL courses, no application is needed to register and there are no admission requirements. For most courses, students can register any day of the year and have nine months to complete the course.

Tuition and Fees
Students admitted to an online degree or certificate, and students who are not admitted to any University of Minnesota certificate or degree programs, qualify for instate tuition rates, regardless of where you live. Tuition for 2009-2010 is $350.76 per undergraduate credit and $934.33 per graduate credit. In all cases, there are fees in addition to tuition.

Financial Aid
Financial aid is available for students officially admitted to the Bachelor in Multidisciplinary Studies and the certificate in Applied Business. Financial aid for individual courses is limited. Eligibility requirements vary, but most aid programs place restrictions on some types of distance courses and require admission to a University of Minnesota degree program or eligible certificate program. Non-admitted students who live in Minnesota may be eligible for College of Continuing Education grants or scholarships, which have more flexible eligibility criteria. Employer assistance may also be an option for some students.

Institute Overview
The University of Minnesota (U of M), with its five component campuses, is one of the most comprehensive universities in the US. It is both a land-grant university with a strong tradition of education and public service and a major research institution. It was founded as a preparatory school in 1851 and was reorganized as a university in 1869, benefiting from the Morrill (or Land-Grant) Act of 1862.

U of M has campuses in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul), Duluth, Morris, Rochester, and Crookston, Minnesota. The Twin Cities campus, home of the College of Continuing Education, is a classic Big Ten campus with comprehensive academic programs offering unlimited opportunities for students and faculty.

Program Delivery and Student Support
You may also choose from a wide variety of individual college credit courses without formally applying to a degree or a certificate program. About 60 percent of our University of Minnesota distance courses are online and fully interactive. Most of the online courses are one semester (14 weeks in length), some run for nine months. About 40 percent of ODL courses are delivered as printed packets for home study. They have nine month terms, are self-paced, and provide assignment exchange via e-mail and postal mail with faculty members. All students who register for college credit with ODL receive an email account.

The Continuing Education Information Center helps students find information about specific courses, and assists students with registration, financial aid and exam appointments. Academic Advising is available. U of M libraries fully support distance learners with reference services, online research assistance and home delivery of materials. The university also has online writing assistance and mentoring services available.

ODL also accommodates students with disabilities and will coordinate services that remove academic or physical barriers to education.
