Program Overview
The mission of the College of Business at Minnesota State University, Mankato (MSU) is to educate students in the region and beyond to be successful and responsible business professionals.

The business programs at MSU follow a two-plus-two format. Students enter the College of Business and declare their major in the third year of study. In the first and second years, prospective business students begin building the foundation for further business study through coursework in math, English, computer science and a strong liberal arts foundation. In the second year, they complete prerequisites in accounting, economics, management, business, law and the Second Year Experience Course, which requires students to develop a comprehensive four-year plan of study.

Third-year students select their program from any of the College of Business's five major options: Accounting, Finance, International Business, Management or Marketing. The departments offer minors in the areas of Accounting; Finance; International Business; HR Management; MIS, and Marketing.

A number of innovative programs supplement the College of Business's curricula. The MSU Honors Program offers students of exceptional ability the opportunity to work closely with faculty, attend special lectures and work independently. The E-Mentoring Program uses email to match students with successful business persons. The program gives students access to the practical knowledge of experienced professionals and allows students to explore career options. Students may gain similar advantages through an internship program that places students in work environments where they can develop their skills in the real world. Each department has a faculty internship coordinator and these individuals should be contacted for further information. MSU also sponsors a study abroad program that allows students to gain valuable international experience.

The College of Business offers student exchange programs with institutions in France, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Mexico, Austria, The Netherlands, and China.

Each year, the college offers several Executive Lectures that bring top-level executives to a forum where students can interact personally with public- and private-sector professionals. The speakers typically share their professional views and experiences on an array of current business concerns.

Several times each year the college presents an etiquette dinner and seminar. Participants learn about proper business meal etiquette and how to dress to present a professional image on a limited budget. The dinner is usually a four-course meal and students are encouraged to ask questions throughout the evening. The second part of the event features proper dress etiquette for the business interview. This event is very popular among the students.
