University and Location
Missouri State University is situated in Springfield, Missouri, which is Missouri's third largest city. There are many opportunities in Springfield for recreation and entertainment, especially in the downtown area. These opportunities include cultural activities, visiting Jordan Valley Park, and watching the Springfield Cardinals (AA) baseball team. There are plenty of employment opportunities in Springfield, both part-time work for students, and good full-time positions for graduates.

The Missouri State campus is compact, and students can walk from class to class in a matter of minutes. Students who live on campus live in nationally acclaimed residence halls, and all students can take advantage of the many food choices, convenience stores, and shuttle services that are provided by Missouri State University.

Admissions
To qualify for admission to Missouri State, students have to be a graduate of an accredited high school and meet both the core curriculum and selection index requirements. If students have completed courses for college credit, they must also have at least a 2.00 grade point average on those courses.

The core curriculum was established by the Missouri Department of Higher Education and is required of all students except those who graduated from high school prior to 1996. To be admitted to the University, students must have:
• Four units of English, (two of which must emphasize composition or writing. One unit may be speech or debate.)
• Three units of Mathematics (algebra I or higher, including algebra II)
• Three units of Social Studies: (must include American history and at least one semester of government)
• Two units of science, (not including general science, and one unit must be a laboratory course.)
• One unit of Visual and Performing Arts (graduates of accredited Missouri high schools meet this through completion of the fine arts requirement for graduation)
• Additional Core Courses: Three additional units of core electives selected from any combination of two or more of the above subject areas and/or foreign language. Computer science may also be used if it has a prerequisite of algebra I or higher.

After this criteria is fulfilled, students are expected to also fulfil the selection index requirements, which are based on the sum of the student's class rank percentile and ACT percentile. More information on how to calculate this is provided on Missouri State University's website at: http://www.missouristate.edu/admissions/admpolicy.htm.

If students do not meet the above requirements, but they do demonstrate an academic potential not reflected in their standard performance measures, they should contact the Office of Admissions for information on the appeal process. This also applies to other categories of students, such as:
• Missouri high school graduates who have completed the core curriculum but who do not meet the selection index requirement
• Students who have been home schooled

Students who choose to begin at another college or university and earn 24 or more hours of transferable credit (completed after high school graduation) with at least a 2.00 grade point average, qualify for transfer admission. Students should contact the Office of Admissions for information on transfer policies and procedures.

Admission to the University is separate from admission to the College of Business Administration. Students in good standing at Missouri State are eligible to be considered for admission to a specific degree program in the College of Business Administration upon the completion of at least 54 credit hours including at least ten preparation courses. Admission to the College of Business Administration is limited to a total of 2,000 majors at the combined junior and senior levels. Admission decisions will be determined by applicants' combined (Missouri State plus transfer) grade point average. However, all applicants whose combined grade point average is 2.50 or higher will be admitted to the College of Business Administration.
