Program Overview
|
The College of Business and Economics (CBE) at the University of Idaho (UI) offers Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in Business with majors in accounting, business economics, finance, management and human resources, information systems, marketing, and production/operations management. The CBE is only one of 20 institutes in the US to offer a professional golf management option in marketing. The CBE is fully accredited by AACSB International–The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International.
The programs offered by the CBE are built on the foundation of a well-rounded broad education in the humanities, the social and natural sciences, and mathematics. The business school has implemented an Integrated Business Curriculum that enables students to actively work in teams integrating ideas and concepts across business disciplines. Courses are team taught so that perspectives and expertise from a number of sources are presented. CBE students must complete 58 credit hours in the core courses, as well as the university's requirements and achieve a GPA of 2.0 or higher in order to proceed to upper-division work.
In addition to regular classes, prominent business people from companies such as IBM, Boeing and Micron frequently visit classrooms.
UI has international connections with over 70 countries. Recent business students have spent a semester studying in Chile, Ecuador, Germany, Korea, Mexico and Thailand. The CBE offers several opportunities for a minor in international business.
Eleven business-student organizations meet on campus, including the Student Marketing Association, Student Accounting Association, Economics Club and International Business Club.
The CBE offers more than 200 scholarships to students enrolled in the business school and special consideration is given to residents of the state of Idaho.

University and Location
|
Created in 1889, the University of Idaho is the state's main institution for undergraduate education and research. Its goal is to provide students with marketable skills and a broad foundation of knowledge.
To ensure that all students at UI share some basic knowledge, a number of courses form a core curriculum emphasizing communication, natural sciences, mathematics, humanities and social sciences. In addition to its 200 degree programs, UI offers more than 600 courses jointly with Washington State University, located seven miles to the west. UI is also a distance education provider, using teleconferencing and videotaped instruction to meet the educational needs of students throughout Idaho.
Approximately 12,000 students from all 50 American states and more than 80 countries attend UI. It was selected as one of the best buys in American education by an editor of the New York Times. Affordable fees have long been one of its primary characteristics.
The university owns approximately 7,900 acres of forest land, which students and faculty use for research and teaching.
UI is a residential campus providing housing for approximately 1,400 students in 23 residence halls located in eight buildings across the campus.
Moscow, the home of UI, was first settled in 1875. Its clean air, forested mountains and scenic rivers are perfect for skiing, hiking and boating. Moscow is also the site of the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, Prichard Art Gallery and Idaho Repertory Theater.

Support for International Students
|
Advisers at UI's International Programs Office (IPO) provide services for international students, including assistance with immigration, education, financial and personal issues.
Once admitted to UI, students are mailed a general information package in preparation for their arrival in the US. All new international students are required to participate in a mandatory orientation before classes begin.
The IPO and the Associated Students of the University of Idaho (ASUI) jointly sponsor the International Friendship Association, a unique program that connects international students with US students and members of the local community for various formal and informal social activities. The Students' International Association, a group of American and international students, organizes a range of social, cultural and educational activities, including a welcome orientation and a cultural diversity week.
Students wishing to achieve the required level of proficiency on the TOEFL for admission to UI or who wish to improve their English can enroll in UI's American Language & Culture Program (ALCP). The ALCP provides students with intensive, full-time, year-round instruction in English as a Second Language. Special cultural activities and information about American culture and postsecondary education are also provided.
