Institute Overview
|
The University of South Dakota (USD) is the state's oldest university, dating back to the year 1862. Since 1913, USD has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Situated on the bluffs above the Missouri River, USD is located on a 216-acre campus in the small community of Vermillion, in southeast South Dakota. Vermillion is recognized as a safe and clean host for the University and also offers ample recreational and cultural opportunities in the town and in neighboring communities.
USD has gained a reputation as an acknowledged leader of higher learning and is committed to excellence in education and research as well as in student service. The University of South Dakota is home to the state's only law and medical schools and the only College of Fine Arts.
USD aims to constantly provide graduate and undergraduate programs in the liberal arts and sciences and in professional education on the highest level. Promoting excellence in teaching and learning as well as supporting research and creative activities remain topics of extraordinary efforts and attention. Last but not least, USD attempts to deliver outstanding service to South Dakota, the region and beyond.
The university also has a lot to offer when it comes to activities outside the classroom: USD hosts the area’s only domed stadium, the DakotaDome, the renowned "National Music Museum" and South Dakota's most cherished public university building, Old Main.
