Programs Overview
The Electrical & Computer Engineering Department in Clarkson University's (Clarkson) Coulter School of Engineering (CSOE) offers programs leading to Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. The ME degree is a special non-thesis program offering advanced training in electrical and computer engineering. The program of study for an ME student comprises 24 credit hours of coursework, two credit hours of seminar, and four credit hours of project work. An average of B or better is required for graduation. The program generally requires a maximum of one calendar year to complete and ME graduates have the option of continuing towards a PhD degree if accepted as a candidate by the graduate committee. A research-based Master of Science (MS) degree requiring 30 credit hours and a PhD degree requiring 90 credit hours are also available. The Coulter School of Engineering and School of Business also offer a two year two degree program in which interested students may complete an ME degree in the first year and an MBA in the following year. Foundation requirements needed for the MBA will be provided at no tuition cost during the summer before the ME and MBA years.

Buildings & Resources
The department's computing facilities include Unix workstations, Novell networked personal computers, Windows NT workstations and various servers. Within the department, research labs have local networks of Unix or NT workstations. Computing-based classrooms are shared among the engineering departments and include color printers, plotters and CAD resources. The motion control and robotics engineering lab includes a test facility for DSP-based nonlinear control of industrial motors, a direct-drive robotic arm, a station for active noise control experiments and facilities for circuit design. The biomedical signal and image processing laboratory is equipped with multiple computational platforms, patient-isolated bioamplifiers, medical monitoring equipment, digital recorder and ECG animal monitoring system. A new set of laboratory equipment for multimedia signal processing and wireless networking is being set up. The machine and drives laboratory contains test stands for the development of adjustable speed drive systems, as well as specialized software for drive design. The power electronics and power quality laboratory includes pwm inverter development benches, harmonic generators, harmonic monitoring equipment and momentary event monitors. Power engineering lab workstations and personal computers are equipped with specialized software applications in the areas of power electronic circuits, motor drive systems, electromagnetic transients, harmonic propagation, short circuit studies and relay coordination, power flow and transient stability. The high voltage laboratory includes high-voltage and high-current generators, accelerated aging test equipment, dielectric monitoring equipment and high-voltage, high-speed measurement instruments. The department is also host to the Center for Quantum Device Technology whose purpose is the exploration of coherent quantum mechanical processes in novel solid-state semiconductor information processing devices, with components of atomic dimensions: quantum computers, spintronic devices, and nanometer-scale computer logic gates.
